Conserve York County Foundation

ABOUT US

Our mission is to advocate for measured, smart growth to enhance our community, attract tourism, and make life better for ALL residents of York County, James City County, and Williamsburg.
We will continue to educate the Citizen/Voter on where elected officials stand on the critical issues of Conservation & Preservation!
When they are “wrong” it leaves irreversible damage to our Neighborhoods.
Who:

We are citizens and volunteers dedicated to protecting the RURAL COMMUNITIES & green space of York County & Historic Triangle. We are concerned about the recent population explosion, made possible by imprudent rezoning.

What:

In the 2015 Comprehensive Plan, 440 new homes were predicted for Upper York County by 2021. Astoundingly, over 3,200 homes have been built or approved since 2015. This means an extraordinary 85% of these homes were allowed because of rezonings.

How:

Protect & Preserve this Historic county, founded in 1634 !

Eliminate or greatly restrict high-density development.

OPPOSE REZONING &

special use permits that do not comply with the Comprehensive Plan.

The Conserve York County Foundation was awarded the

Historic Virginia Land Conservancy

Commitment to Conservation Award!

This award recognizes “extraordinary efforts to
protect & preserve our community in the Historic Triangle by advocating for smart growth and conservation.”
NO REZONING - Preserve Fenton Mill

CITIZEN ACTION WORKS

Preserve Fenton Mill

was born!

In 2020-2021 Citizens came together to oppose a massive rezoning on Fenton Mill Road, in York County District #1.
This land is zoned RURAL RESIDENTIAL which allowed for 288 homes. Had the rezoning been successful, the developer would have built
nearly 600+ homes (more than TWICE as many allowed by current zoning).
Citizens & Voters contacted their Supervisors, displayed signs, wrote letters, created the PreserveFentonMill.org website (and subsequent movement), AND spoke up at meetings of the Planning Commission & the Board of Supervisors.
FINALLY, York County leaders listened, with the rezoning UNANIMOUSLY DENIED!
